The popularity of affiliate marketing is very well realised now than earlier. This is prominent among the reasons for the high visibility of affiliate marketing programs among the ever growing number of affiliate marketers on a daily basis.
Latest web technology has enabled the affiliate marketers to get their statistics and income figures the moment they make an affiliate sale. It is now possible to use companies like PayPal for payment and receipt processing. This has highly curtailed the time that an affiliate marketer needs to wait for his payments to be collected from the merchants.
Today, both the merchants and the affiliates can see clearly that affiliate marketing can work for both of them. The merchant sees affiliate marketing today as the chance to advertise their products at a lower cost. The affiliates, on the other hand, sees affiliate marketing as an easy way of earning profits online by doing what they like most, and that is by creating websites.
Just as the reputation of affiliate marketing has gone up, similarly the attitude of people has enhanced with respect to affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is no more regarded as a inferior method of marketing by the merchants, or as an secondary source of income by an affiliate marketer. Both merchants and affiliates regard affiliate marketing as a main source of profits and revenues.
So the question now is what type of affiliate marketing will work best for you? Are all affiliate marketing programs the same? Are the benefits the same? Or are there affiliate marketing programs that work better than the others?
There are actually a large variety of affiliate marketing methods, and the types will depend on how they are going to be classified. The macro level classification of affiliate marketing programs falls under two main categories: pay-per-click (PPC), and pay-per-performance (PPP).
1. PPC - Pay Per Click is a highly promoted and used affiliate marketing method by affiliates with no websites or small websites. This is also the easiest way for them to start making money. Under this method of affiliate marketing, the affiliate is paid a commission by the merchant when a visitor visits the merchant's site through the affiliate's reference, that is, whenever a visitor clicks and goes to the merchant's site through the banner or text ads that the affiliate has put up. Pay Per Click method is basically used to capitalize on the traffic that arrives at the affiliate's site and the affiliate facilitates the flow of these traffic from the affiliate's site to the merchant's site and the affiliate gets paid for this effort. The merchant's product or services need not be purchased by the visitor, who is referred by the affiliate, for him to earn his compensation from the merchant. However, compensation for each click under PPC affiliate programs are quite small, usually in the range of 10 cents to 1 dollar.
2. Pay Per Performance (PPP) - PPP affiliate marketing is the most popular among merchant and is also the most lucrative type for the affiliates. In this type of affiliate program, the merchant only pays the affiliate whenever his referral translates into an action - that is whenever the visitor he has referred actually buys something from the merchant's site or when the visitor becomes a lead. This means a lot of savings for the merchant. On the other hand, it becomes the most lucrative type for the dedicated affiliate, for commissions in PPP affiliate marketing usually comes in the range of 15% to 20% of the actual product sales. And, in the case of e-products or e-goods, the affiliate commission can go as high as 75% of the sale price.
A further classification of Pay-per-performance affiliate marketing can be done into two types: pay-per-sales (PPS) and pay-per-lead (PPL). Both these are very popular:
a) Pay Per Sale (PPS) - In a pay-per-sale type of affiliate marketing, the affiliates get the commission from the merchants whenever the visitor he has referred to the merchant's site actually buys something from the merchant's site. Affiliates are often paid on percentage basis, although some merchants may opt to pay a fixed fee. But, whatever be the basis of the fee, it is generally much higher than the fee paid to affiliates in a pay-per-click affiliate program.
b) Pay Per Lead (PPL) - The pay-per-lead type of affiliate marketing is a slight variation of the PPS type and is often used by insurance and finance companies and other companies who rely on leads for their company to grow. In this type of affiliate marketing, the affiliate is paid whenever the visitor he referred to the merchant's site fills up an application form or any similar form related to the business of the company. Compensation for this type of affiliate marketing is based on a fixed fee whose rates approximate that of the fixed fee in the PPS type. Generally, the sales conversion rate is the highest in the case of PPL, because, the visitor is not required to purchase anything but only complete a non-financial transaction, like, filling up an application form, subscribing to a newsletter, etc.
Several types of affiliate marketing exist, apart from these three types discussed above. If the classification is based on the depth of the affiliate network, it can be classified as single-tier, two-tier, and multi-tier affiliate marketing. There is another type of affiliate marketing that pays the affiliate every time the customer he has referred purchases an item from the merchant's site sometimes the merchant extending recognition for affiliate loyalties to a lifetime arrangement.
Single-Tier, Two-Tier, and Multi-Tier Affiliate Marketing
These types of affiliate marketing are based on various levels or tiers in the affiliate network for which different affiliate payment structures are devised.
A) Single Tier - In a single-tier affiliate marketing program, the affiliates are paid based on the direct sales or traffic he has referred to the merchant. Most of the time, unless specified, all the affiliate marketing types mentioned earlier (i.e. PPS, PPL, and PPC) fall under the single-tier classification.
B) Two Tier - In two-tier affiliate marketing programs, the affiliates are not only paid for the direct traffic or sales that he refers to the merchant's site, but also on every traffic or sales referred by other affiliates who joined the affiliate program through his recommendation.
C) Multi Tier - Multi-tier affiliate marketing works the same way, although the affiliate gets additional commission for a wider number of affiliates in different tiers in the affiliate network.
D) Residual Income Affiliate Marketing - In this type, the affiliate gets paid for every customer he has referred to the merchant's site. Additionally, the affiliate is also paid whenever the customer he has referred goes back to the merchant's site and purchases another product. Commission for such type of affiliate marketing is based on either percentage of sales or based on fixed fee.
Every affiliate marketer finds that these different affiliate marketing methods work differently for each of them. For instance, multi tier affiliate marketing, also called Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) is a highly difficult type of internet marketing and it does not work for everyone. As a matter of fact, many legitimate marketers consider MLM as illegal or something which is undesirable.
An affiliate marketer has to try out different methods and decide which will work best for him or her. He/she should then concentrate on those affiliate marketing methods which are suitable for his/her style of internet marketing business.

It's the biggest craze of the last few years. People are coming online in droves trying to learn affiliate internet marketing and chasing Internet riches. And why not? Everybody, regardless of where you live in the world has a dream of being independent, not having to worry about paying their bills, not having to work their rear ends off in order to make someone else rich, etc., while others are in search of earning enough money so they can live an extravagant lifestyle. But exactly what does it take for a person to become successful by doing Affiliate Internet Marketing for a living? Let's take a look at a few things.
#1. Be willing to sacrifice a lot of things until you get your business going. This means burning long hours and cutting back on time with friends and family for awhile. There will come a point when you can start outsourcing some of your work, but until you start making enough money to pay for it you'll be on your own.
#2. Be absolutely certain that the market (niche) you plan to enter has profit potential by doing the proper research and testing necessary before you put a lot of money into it. The best way to do this is by finding out how many searches there are for terms within a certain market each month, looking for existing competition (some is good because it means people are buying in that market) and doing some testing by using pay per click advertising.
#3. Find a mentor. Find someone that's doing what you want to do (not necessarily in the same market) and milk them for every bit of information that you can get. This means buying their books, buying their courses and setting up one on one consultations. Yes, this can become expensive, but not nearly as expensive as it will be if you waste 2-4 years of throwing money around and hoping that some will stick. Find a mentor and get it right the first time.
Summary - Not everyone is going to approach Affiliate Internet Marketing the same way. Your success is going to depend on how dedicated you are to your success. If you're not willing to sacrifice your play time, spend money on things that are necessary to your growth and treat Affiliate Internet Marketing just like any other business, it's likely that you're better off working for someone else. The choice is up to you.

After watching hundreds of students build web businesses in a wide range of niche markets, I've concluded that there are really only two critical steps to succeeding as an affiliate marketer. Many people make their journey towards affiliate success a lot harder than it really needs to be and this article aims to help you to shortcut your learning curve towards becoming a super affiliate.
Ok, so what are the two critical steps?
Step 1 - Choose a niche that has thousands of passionate people already spending real money online on HIGH TICKET products and services
Your niche should also have a variety of membership sites or other forms of continuity products you can promote that have ongoing monthly fees. It doesn’t matter if you aren't an expert in this niche, by spending a few days or a week researching, you will know as much as 90% of the other people involved and you will be able to hold your own when writing articles and creating content for your website, newsletters or your blog.
The other critical element in niche selection is to make sure there are TWO TIER affiliate programs available so you can not only get paid for your direct referrals, but you can become a Joint Venture Broker and earn second tier commissions as well for introducing others to the program.
Do some research and find an affiliate program that offers -
* A two-tier structure so you can get leverage on what you do and earn commissions from the work of those you recruit into your team
* A full time affiliate manager who is there to answer your questions and help you to promote the program (and increase your commissions) in every way possible
* A range of pre-written promotional materials and an automated, step by step sequential marketing system that continuously follows up with the prospects you refer
* A range of high ticked products and at least one monthly membership program that automatically earns you commissions month after month for every member who continues their subscription
* Bonuses and incentives for high-earning affiliates to encourage you to become a peak performer
Step 2 - Promote your affiliate program by using Articles submitted to article directories and ezine publishers
The problem with entering niche markets that have high ticket products and lots of competition is it's nearly impossible to generate enough visitor traffic to your website or blog to make any headway. This is where writing and submitting articles and press releases gives you a major advantage over people who are working their tails off trying to get pages ranked well in the organic search results or who are buying traffic using PPC.
However, by finding keywords that aren't as popular as the top 50 words that everyone else is building pages for, or the keywords they are bidding several dollars a click for using PPC, you can run rings around most of your competition and clean up while they all slog it out and get nowhere.
What you want to do is find long-tail, multi keyword phrases that are highly descriptive and related to your niche, and write articles (or have them written for you) specifically focused and well optimized for those words. Then submit your well-optimized articles to the top article directories where they will be indexed by the major search engines.
If you do your job right, your articles in these directories will rank well in the engines, you'll generate lots of visitors to your site and you have the chance of turning these visitors into customers.
When these visitors arrive at your website, offer them something of real value to encourage them to join a list, and you can build your affiliate business quickly and inexpensively while your competitors won't have a clue about what you are doing. There's really no downside to this strategy as long as your articles are well written and informative.
So to summarize, in order to make an Affiliate Marketing fortune in two simple steps, all you need to do if find a niche market that already has lots of people spending money online and plenty of competition; learn all you can about that market so you become an expert (or at least you know more than 90% of the people involved); join a two tier program run by an affiliate manager who will help you succeed, and then promote that program using well written, keyword focused articles.
That's all there is to it. Don't go head to head with the guys with deep pockets. Use 'Marketing Ju Jitsu' and sidestep your competitors by using free articles to attract website visitors and you can quickly become a super affiliate without spending a fortune on marketing.

How many affiliate program owner have you heard say that? Let's see, I have been at IT professional since 1997. I am a return-to-college adult student majoring in business with a focus on E-commerce (in my third year).
I have seen a lot of affiliate programs and chatted with many of the owners and managers. Not one has told me his/her program is not for me.
This insults my intelligence. While I was busy asking questions about it, I was so hoping he/she would also be professional and ask me questions back. A nice professional question might be “What are your goals? What kind of money are you wanting to make and in what amount of time?”, or “What kinds of products and/or services excite you? I hope I have that type, but if I don't, I will surely tell you.”
Sorry. Not one out of thousands of whom I've rubbed cyber-shoulders with.
So I am here to tell you that my affiliate program is probably not for you. Sure, you could make plenty of money on it if you worked hard, the commission structure is straight forward, quite above average for the gift industry, offers lifetime residuals, and is managed by one of the top, if not the top affiliate software makers in the world via 3rd party. I am a craftsman, an artist if you will. I am ok with numbers, but I wouldn't put your life in my hands with me figuring the books. I would rather pay and get it done right. If you are like me you might have a family to feed and/or a stray dog or cat that wanders nearby when hungry.
How do I know my affiliate program is not for you? Well I don't in reality, but statistically I do know. I have a niche program and many others do too. For instance, my niche is sophisticated offbeat cartoon licensed merchandise (I am a cartoonist), in the spirit of The Far Side by Gary Larson (Larson was my inspiration and continues to be); the media has compared our work (that is both a blessing and a curse in that nobody wants to be known as a copycat, but on the upside, if my work could be compared to anyone's I would want it to be Gary Larson's Far Side.
But like The Far Side, my market is very niche. Demographic studies shows that my buyers, though they run the gamut, are about 60% male/40% female age 25-44 with at least one college degree and a high majority with two or more degrees.
I do not say this for “bragging rights”, I am a college dropout who returned to school merely for health reasons. I had been working in major-market media for nearly two decades until my heart decided to stop for awhile. Then the doctors demanded I stop for awhile.
So my affiliate program is probably not for you, that is, statistically, most people enjoy dealing with the masses, sort of like Wal-Mart or Target does. Sure you could promote or sell our tee shirts, sweats, mousepads, key chains, gourmet coffee baskets, caps, clocks, and other gifts and collectibles and make a small fortune (if not a big one), but if you didn't appreciate and were enthusiastic about the images, I would try to talk you out of it. The cartoon image is what the customer is buying as much as the product. I am lucky to have two manufacturers who make phenomenal quality products with expedited worldwide shipping and my products sell very well.
My main website (of cartoons only) rates highest on both Alexa.com and Netcraft.com's systems; usually in the top 100,000 most popular on the Internet, but that ranking is volatile at times. Since
2005 it has remained very steady.
So how does one decide if an affiliate program is for them? I have broken it down into steps. Here they are:
1.Do I actually like the product or service? Not just like it but get excited enough about it to wake up in the morning, jump out of bed, and begin marketing it? 2.Do I understand it? Rick's products have cartoons? If I don't understand or appreciate that type humor, how can I get excited about the product 3.Does the program offer lifetime residuals? 4.Is the commission rate fixed so there are no surprises or do I have to reach certain plateaus each month? 5.Is the commission structure fair? 6.Is the program managed in-house or by a professional trusted management team? 7.What is the reputation, SEO ranking, etc. of this company?
Those are but a few. There are no dumb questions, believe me; by not asking I've made plenty of errors myself. Now I make money. A lot of it. So do my affiliates, not all of them, but the ones who really enjoy working hard on it. I love to be of help (I think I could have been a teacher as my mother was). So support is mandatory in any affiliate program. If I don't have the answers, which is often the case, I can go to our affiliate management team with many more years of experience than me, ask, and get back to you with the answer.
I hope this helps. Knowledge is power and the more you research, the more you know. I am not an SEO or Affiliate expert, don't claim to be (am a cartoonist) but I am learning this type work each day as I experience it and study it in classes. I find it fascinating.
My hope to you is next time someone approaches you and says “My affiliate program is just right for you!”, and you say back “I bet it isn't, it might be but statistically it probably isn't.”
I know a lot of what I have written here is tongue in cheek, but, there is a lot of truth to it. Matching an affiliate candidate with the right affiliate program takes work on both parties parts. It is like a marriage in a way. Both parties have to put a lot of work into it. And like marriage, you want your affiliate partner to be the perfect bride (or groom).

As the competition increases for promoting products as an affiliate its essential to stand out from the crowd and go the extra mile so that customers buy from you rather than your competitors.
Affiliate marketing is a competitive business with everyone promoting the latest product hoping to make a fast buck and then move on to the next one. Its still possible to earn substantial profits promoting products the traditional way (such as sending ready made email promos to your list) but you can easily increase your income by using videos instead of text.
With so much information on the internet and so many emails to sift through, many people simply don't have time to read everything. So what better way to catch their attention than by using full motion screen capture videos created with a special tool called Camtasia.
Anyone can easily create high quality presentations and tutorials without needing any special training. All you need is a computer and a headset and you too can create your own videos with ease. Its like having your prospects seated next to you and looking at your desktop as you show them the things they need to see and hear.
You can record your desktop activity live with a single click of a button and convert your videos into web pages which you can upload to your website and publish using RSS feeds, blogs, and podcasts. It opens up a whole new world of marketing and makes it easier to communicate with your target audience.
By creating videos you can reduce the skepticism of your prospects and gain their trust by showing them visually how to use a product instead of just describing it with words. This also reduces refund requests because prospects know exactly what they will be getting if they decide to purchase the product you are recommending.
You can create stunning multimedia presentations and tutorials which you can use to pre sell products and redirect viewers to your affiliate link when the video has ended. This strategy can dramatically increase your conversion rates and reduces the need to follow up with your prospects over and over again.
By showing your prospects how you used a product to achieve a certain goal and how they can too you will gain instant credibility and build rapport which will produce the best results and generate the highest conversions. This is how many super affiliates outdo their competitors.
If you are an affiliate marketer and you want to take your marketing to the next level and significantly increase your income you should seriously consider using videos to pre sell products.
